Originating in Benton county, Arkansas in the late 1800s this heirloom apple produces a tart, dark red fruit that mellows into a sweet, nearly black apple after a month in cold storage. Fruit ripens in October and keeps for nearly 6 months in a refigerator. This tree is grown on M-111 root stock and should reach about 20′ tall. Reported to be partially self-fertile, another apple in proximity will greatly increase production.. Mature Size: 15-20′ x 15-20′ after 5-7 years. Full Sun (6+ Hours).
