1982
Southwood opened its doors in the spring of 1982 as a small landscape design firm at the corner of 71st Street and Riverside Drive in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The company moved to its present location at 91st Street and Lewis Avenue in 1985. As the surrounding area of Jenks/Southwest Tulsa grew, so did the nursery. The garden center now encompasses 5 acres and includes a 25,000 square–foot, state-of-the-art greenhouse and wide, inviting sidewalks that offer shoppers a pleasant stroll through the grounds. Younger visitors enjoy pedaling red and blue tricycles around the displays.

2002
In 2002, Southwood expanded again, with the addition of growing facilities on South Delaware Ave. The nursery now grows many of its own products — such as pansies, roses, mums, and summer annuals — using Southwood’s special potting mix and fertilizers to improve plant quality and size.
Celebrating its 40th year in 2022, Southwood is still a family-run operation, headed by native Tulsans Joe and Ginny Schulte and their daughters Margaret Schulte and Brenda Baird.
