Join us Saturday, June 14, for our first ever Cactus and Succulent Show! Celebrate Father’s Day weekend with everyone’s favorite prickly plants, plus weird and wild exotic plants from specialty growers Chaos on Coyote Trail, potting stations, food by The Dogfather, live music by Pat "Trick" Savage and Rick Morton, salsas by Salas Mi Miña, and a complimentary beer for all the adults in the house! Your plant (be it a cactus, succulent, or just something weird you want to show off) could even be the star of the show! Bring your plant to participate in the Plant Show Contest for the chance to win a Southwood gift card! Judges will include expert growers and other plant enthusiasts from our team, as well as event attendees for the People's Choice Award.

Plant contest details:
Registration, bring plant to store 9-10 a.m.
Plants will be displayed until 3 p.m.
Panel judging will take place 1 to 2 p.m.
Attendees can vote on People's Choice throughout the day
Winners announced at 2:30 p.m.
Pick up plant at 3 p.m.
Judging criteria for both the panel judging and People's Choice is up to each judge.

One entry per person. Entries may be a single specimen or a combination of plants in a single container or arrangement.

Capture the vast, ethereal beauty of the desert in a terrarium that fits on a desk! Join us Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m. for our Layered Desert Terrarium Workshop! Each attendee will get to create and take home a terrarium of their own making while learning about plants along the way, including best practices to keep your lithops a living stone. Each ticket comes with everything you need to create a dazzling desert display, including a glass container, two cacti, a lithops, and all the rocks, sand, and soil you need to make functional and artistic layers in your terrarium. Seating is limited, so don't delay!

Fall is for fescue, and given the unexpected arrival of cooler-than-normal temperatures, we may be able to get a jump start on planting this cool-season grass from seed. Join Paul James as he talks you through the steps required to ensure success, from sowing to mowing. This event is free, but registration is required.

Local vendors, princesses, live music, food, train rides, AND Paul James, all in one day? You bet! Join us on Saturday, October 4, for a Harvest Market that has just about everything! Paul James and Jenn Smith kick things off with "All About Bulbs" at 10 a.m. (RSVP at tinyurl.com/aboutbulbs), and afterward there will be lunch by The Dogfather available as well as live music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a royal visit from princesses Cinderella and Ariel from 2 to 4 p.m., not to mention all of the amazing local vendors that will be here throughout the day from 9a.m. to 4 p.m.!

The beauty of bulbs is hard to beat, and planting them is about as easy as it gets. But the best thing about bulbs is that nearly all of them come back year after year, often for decades.
